Jason Hopp

December 31, 1969 — August 21, 2023

Jason Scott Hopp, 45, of Byron, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Born June 30, 1978, in Elgin, IL, the son of John B. Hopp, Sr. and Vickie Ann (Schumacher) Hopp Jambor. Jason married his soul mate, Vanessa Powless on October 25, 2003. Jason received his Associate’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing and then went to get his Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Olivet Nazarene University. He worked as an Emergency Department nurse for many years. Jason had many hobbies which included golfing, bowling, hunting, and volleyball. He enjoyed going on vacation, working on cars, and kayaking. He loved to watch football on Sunday and was very active in fantasy football as well. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. He coached his daughter Kiera in bowling and his son Colton in football. Jason was also on the 1995 Hampshire High School Football team that won the State Championship that year. Jason volunteered for the fire departments in Mt. Morris, Kirkland, Hampshire, and Stillman Valley over the years. He was a mentor and inspiration to new and experienced nurses alike. Even with all these activities and accomplishments, if you asked Jason what his favorite pastime was, his answer would be playing PS5 Madden Football and PGA Tour with his son Colton, dancing in the living room with his daughter Kiera, and going out to eat and dancing with his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Vanessa. He will be greatly missed by so many. Jason is survived by his loving wife Vanessa; son Colton; daughter Kiera; mother Vickie (Alvin) Jambor; sisters Missy (Dave Gammill) Braswell and Bindy (Lorna) Lingwai) Hopp; father-in-law Dan (Lori Patterson) Powless; mother-in-law Debra (Joe Bortz) Powless; brother-in-law Jared (Steph) Powless; step siblings-in-law Ben (Monique) Bakken, Eric (Margaret) Bakken, Kari (Ryan) Walker, and Katie Bakken; several adored nieces and nephews; and the Blue Crew work family at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
