Janis Gayle Warren

Janis G. Warren, 78, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at OSF Hospital following a stroke. She was born on August 23, 1947, in Elgin, Illinois, to Harold and Margaret Ackerson.

Janis graduated from Dundee High School in 1965 and went on to attend Southern Illinois University, where she graduated summa cum laude.

Throughout her life, Janis wore many hats and served her community in countless ways. She retired from the Rockford School District, where she worked as a bus driver. Also worked with the Rockford Korean Presbyterian Church and McDonald’s on 11th Street, where she held several roles including back drive-thru, children’s party hostess, and bingo caller.

A lifelong educator at heart, Janis generously shared her knowledge as a tutor in computer skills, math, science, and English. Her commitment to nurturing young minds extended into her volunteer work as a Boy Scouts den mother, Girl Scouts troop leader, and foster caregiver for Global Cat Shelter.
Janis was active in her faith communities and was a devoted member of Brook Road Methodist Church and Broadway Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and purpose.

She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to service, love of learning, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Janis leaves behind a legacy of compassion and quiet strength that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her survivors include her children, Dale Warren, Debbie Orman, Terra Trenton, and Daniel Warren; grandchildren, Amanda, Nicky, Sara Kassandra, Logan and Steven; sister Julie Oller; nieces Kamm and Kristi; and best friend Carol Campton. Janis is predeceased by her father and mother Harold and Margaret Ackerson; and brother David Ackerson.
