Jan Zimmerman

Jan 20, 1940 — Jul 31, 2026

Jan Carol Zimmerman, 86, of Mt. Morris, passed away on July 31, 2026, at Allure of Pinecrest. She was born on January 20, 1940, in Rockford, daughter of Max Leroy and Carol Maxine (Davis) Brantner.

Jan lived and grew up in the Bryon area most of her life and attended Byron schools. She worked at Kysor in Byron and Eaton in Rochelle. She was an avid reader with Nora Roberts as one of her favorite authors. A good day for Jan was one spent outdoors in the shade with a book in hand. She loved animals, owning several cats and dogs during her lifetime. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels.

She taught herself macrame and taught herself how to play ragtime on the piano by ear. She sold many items on eBay. Jan enjoyed family reunions and holiday get-togethers and loved all things Betty Boop, eating lemon meringue pie, and chocolate malts.

During her teenage years, she was a talented seamstress, making her own prom dresses that other girls would borrow. She loved the Rock River, saying she practically lived on it, playing there with the neighboring Hudson kids. She ice-skated on it as a teen and boated there as an adult.

Jan always fought for the “underdog” and even in her last years wanted to donate to Native American Schools.

The family thanks Heritage Woods of Freeport and Allure of Pinecrest for taking such good care of our loved one during her last years. We are also grateful that she claimed Jesus as her Lord and Savior during those years and so we can look forward to seeing her again, “for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Jan is survived by her daughters Laurie Burnworth, Kim Swanson, and Cindy Swanson; grandchildren Todd Schiro, Neil Finch, Sarah (Todd) Goodin, Tracy (Jon Hinton) Finch, and Cody (Brittany) Logan; great-grandchildren Brennan Finch, Chance Logan, Ava Tuttle, Callen White, and Scarlett Logan; brother Max (Nancy) Brantner; niece Amy (Pete) Siotropos, nephew Aaron (Maria) Brantner; and several great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents; and brother Dennis Brantner.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
