James Mason

December 31, 1969 — February 3, 2022

JAMES Mason (aka Sonny) passed away on February 3, 2022, at his Hospice Residence in Rockford, Illinois. As a resident of the Rockford area for over 35 years, Sonny was a God-fearing man who was supportive in the community and extremely active at his Rockford Church: Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Mason was born March 28, 1939, to the late Luzelle Mason in Chicago, Illinois. While there, he helped raise his brother and cousins while working to help the family and Big Mama. Sonny was also a hard and dedicated worker, who loved being the life of every room. In his younger years, he worked as a proud meat butcher and provided administrative assistance at the Salvation Army. James died after a long battle with Cardiology issues, COVID and accidents. James loved life and smiled, even in his darkest days. Nurses stopped into his room every morning just to see his warm smile.  The family of James Mason would like to thank all the dedicated doctors and warm-hearted, hardworking nurses at River Crossing of Rockford Hospice, Swedish Covenant Hospital and Rockford Supportive Living, where he spent his later years. Many there say “We always looked for his lovely smile, but He was Tired. He is Truly in God’s Hands.” Sonny leaves behind Eddie and Connie Mason (Brother and sister in-law), Lina and Eugene Mason (Niece/nephew), other nephews are Marvin Gordon, Peter Quigley, along with younger cousins, Delia, Celia, Montgomery, Nicole, Brittany and numerous Church Family Members and His surviving close friends. Sonny will be extremely missed but He lived a great life.
“Rest in Peace My Brother.”
