Irene Faye Reeves-78 of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away on December 16, 2025, from a lengthy battle with chronic illness. At the time of her passing she was residing at River Bluff nursing home in Rockford, Illinois. Born December 26, 1946, in Scott County, Indiana, her parents were Eugene and Letta McKinney.

Irene or “Faye” as she preferred, graduated from Columbus High School in 1965. Faye received an accounting degree from Rock Valley College. Faye started her career as a paraprofessional educator at Loves Park Elementary School in 1987 and later worked at Harlem High School retiring in 2013. Faye worked in the special education department of the Harlem School district, most often supervising detention, night, and Saturday school. She was well known by students and would often be recognized and addressed by many at various public places.

Faye felt considerable pride in her accomplishment of owning two homes (mortgage-free) due to her hard work, determination, and excellent money management skills. Faye was a contributing member of Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Rockford and was steadfast in her faith. Her hobbies included doing word search and sudoku puzzles, ceramics, home decorating, and yearly trips to Shipshewana, IN.

Survivors include her son Kenneth Reeves Jr. of Machesney Park, daughter Tracy (Matthew) Ashman of Machesney Park, granddaughters Jordan (Adrian) Malady of Machesney Park and Alyssa (Roger) Morris of Rockton, grandson Lucas Ashman of Machesney Park, step-grandchildren Tyler Rothe of Machesney Park, Damon Ashman of Machesney Park, Jessica Shollenberger of South Beloit and Sarah Poulisse of Loves Park and many great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, and step-grandson Scott Shollenberger.

The visitation held at 2pm on December 29th at Grace Reformed Baptist Church, 6310 Guilford Road, Rockford, IL 61107 will include a memorial service, officiated by Pastor Dale Smith at 3pm, followed by a luncheon.
