Howard Peters, 77, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in Loves Park, Illinois. Born on July 25, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, Howard lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep appreciation for learning and technology. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran.
Following his military service, Howard embarked on a long and steady career as a contracted driver for the Rockford Register Star newspaper, where he worked for 40 years. Alongside this role, Howard pursued his passion for computer programming through a second career as a software engineer for ICD, Inc., where he applied his analytical mind and technical skills. He was featured in an issue of Desktop Publishers Journal prior to designing and writing an array of software applications during the pioneering days of 8-bit and 16-bit home computers.
Howard's interests extended beyond his professional life. He found joy in marriage and family, gardening, playing guitar and listening to music, and was an avid reader of detective and science fiction novels. His continued use of computers and technology remained strong throughout the years. His sense of humor was unique and unforgettable. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda.
Howard's memory will be cherished by those who knew him.
