Helen M. Clark, 83, of Machesney Park, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on October 18, 2024. She was born on June 28, 1941, in Delaplaine, Arkansas. The daughter of Roy and Victoria (Maynard) Clark. Helen was a very good softball player. Her dream was to play for the Rockford Peaches, but to her disappointment, they disbanded 6 months before she could follow that dream. She was an accomplished, self-taught, plumber and electrician. She was also an artist, doing mostly landscapes in oil but also was very talented with portraits. These past few years she’s been known as the neighborhood dog walker. She would walk dogs for owners that could no longer do so. Helen retired from Woodward Governor after 37 years. She was a spring maker for springs used in various engines, including Boeing aircraft.
Helen is survived by her wife and partner of over 58 years, Shirley McGill; brothers Tom and Roger Clark; twin sister Ellen Owen and sister Betty Rice; special nephew Joe McGill; several nieces and nephews that she loved very much, and they loved her just as much; sister-in-law Janet (John) Griffith. She is predeceased by her parents; in-laws Pearl and Clifford McGill; brothers Bob (Fran) Clark and James (Donna) Clark; sisters-in-law Sharon Clark and Linda Todd; brothers-in-law Chuck McGill and Cloyce Owen; and nephew Tim Griffith.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2pm to 5pm, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Firstborn Ministries Church, 8213 N. Alpine Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111, with a luncheon to be served. There will also be a Celebration of Life in Muscatine, Iowa to be announced soon. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111.
