Gregory Lee “Big G” VerKuilen, 67, of Davis, died at 5:40 am, October 16, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children after suffering from Cancer. Born June 21, 1952 in Rockford, IL; son of Hazel Mae and Edward VerKuilen. He lived most of his life in the Rockford, Pecatonica, and Davis, IL areas. Gregory and his wife Cheryl were together for 43 wonderful years. He played the role of big brother to Cheryl’s sisters Lynda and Wink. Gregory spent his life as a Union Journeyman Roofer, was an avid fisherman and loved working in his yard. He was a wonderful neighbor taking care of his neighbor’s yards whom needed it during the summer season and taking care of snow duty in the winter season. He took a yearly fishing trip to Kentucky Lake with his nephews Greg and Geoff Lester, their father Lee, and his brother Ed. He loved his children and wife very much. His favorite movie was the Godfather Trilogy. Gregory was a big man with a big sense of humor and was loved by his many family and friends. Greg is survived by his wife Cheryl Ann VerKuilen of Davis, IL; daughters Wendi Dixon of Davis, IL, Penny VerKuilen of Denver, CO, LeAnn (Alan) Druien of Byron, IL; son Greg (Andrea) Pruitt of New Milford, IL. He is also survived by his sisters Joyce Name of Rockford, Sally Knutson of Davis Junction, Peggie (Lee) Lester of Stillman Valley, Penny VerKuilen of Davis Junction, Pamela (Bill) Graw of Rockford. Also survived by brothers Edward (Lois) VerKuilen of Rockford, Bob VerKuilen of Rockford, Tom VerKuilen of Rockford, and Jerry (Debbie) VerKuilen of Missouri. He is survived by grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and special friends. Also, predeceased by his parents Hazel Mae and Edward VerKuilen, brother Richard VerKuilen, sisters Kay Parker, Carol Lester, Nancy Minnick, brothers-in-law Lou Name, Ray Knutson, and James Lester.
