Gregory Schmidt

October 24, 1951 — June 8, 2024

Gregory Dale Schmidt, Roscoe, Illinois, passed away June 8, 2024. He was born in McPherson, Kansas, to Glen Dale and Betty Jean (Banks) Schmidt of Galva, where he grew to adulthood. He was welcomed by his sister Marilyn Rose and joined later by sister Teresa Lee and brother Tracy Kirby. By faith, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the Galva Christian Church April 11, 1965.

After graduation from Galva High School in 1969 he attended Hutchinson Junior College and joined the Navy in 1970. He was honorably discharged in 1976. He married Barbara Mueller and they had two sons; Gregory Dale Jr. and Daniel Thomas Schmidt. He married Vickie Goelz Bell in McPherson March 22, 1980, and her two daughters Kristi Lynn and Kimberly Kay completed his family.

Greg was employed as a finishing engineer with various corporations, retiring in 2015 and moving with Vickie to Belize, South America, where they built a home and lived for 4 years before returning to the States due to his health issues. Greg enjoyed fishing, cruises, and home renovation projects.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Ekko Cade Reynolds and brothers-in-law Clifford King and Reed Koehn. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie, children Greg Jr. and partner Bretta, Daniel, Kristi Clark (Jeremy), Kimberly Lawson (Scott), eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He is also survived by sisters Marilyn King (Julian Gladney, Jr.) Moundridge, Teresa Weaver (Adam), New Holland, PA, and brother Tracy Schmidt (Susan), Galva, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be from 12 pm to 3 pm,  Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Loves Park VFW, 2018 Windsor Rd, Loves Park, IL 61111. Honor Guard will take place at noon. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
