Gregory Schaffter

July 9, 1971 — May 13, 2024

Gregory David Schaffter, 52, of Belvidere, passed away in his home on May 13, 2024. He was born on July 9, 1971, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the son of Frank and Sharyn (Gulick) Schaffter. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1989. Greg was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was considered Mr. Fix-it. He could figure out how to fix just about anything. He also had a guarantee when he fixed a car. You would know in 12 miles or 12 minutes if it was fixed. He was a kind and compassionate person and helped support St. Jude Children’s Hospital. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks. He enjoyed cooking and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and best friend Athena.

Greg is survived by his partner in life of 13 years, Melissa Diehl; Melissa’s daughter Nichole Guenterberg and granddaughter Athena Johnson; mother Sharyn Schaffter-Margita; sister Eileen (Arthur) Frage; and his nephews Joseph (Sara Toso) Saenz and Christopher Frage. He is predeceased by his father Frank Schaffter.
