Gerald “Jerry” L. Sanders, 66, of Rockford, passed away on December 26, 2024, in Rockford, IL, the son of Marvin Sanders Sr. and Virginia Williams. He graduated in 1977 from Harlem High School in Machesney Park, soon after he joined the Marines in 1977, with an honorable discharge in 1980. Jerry had known his wife Peggy Sanders for 26 years and was happily married for 24 years. He enjoyed fishing and loved going out with friends on charter boats, he was an avid Packers fan even when they weren’t winning. Jerry was employed as a part-timer at Excellent Garage Doors; however, everyone treated him like family. He was always active, he loved to tinker with anything and everything, he would try to his hand at fixing whatever needed fixing, if he didn’t know how to, a simple YouTube search would suffice. Jerry and Peggy would have at least one meal a day at Johny Pancakes, where the staff and even the regulars knew them and treated them like family.
His survivors include his wife Peggy L. Sanders, his children Nicole (Evin) Hinklin; Anthony (Erica) Sanders; Kayla Sanders; and Chris Conway. His mother Virginia Sanders; multiple grandchildren who he loved dearly; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his pets Mittens; and Crybaby. His Siblings Cheryl (Dan) Vestal; Scott Sanders; Bruce (Cindy) Sanders. The family would like to thank his friends Steve Gavic; Dan Harvey; Ray and the entire crew with Excellent Garage Doors. He is predeceased by his father Marvin Sanders Sr. and his brother Marvin “Butch” Sanders Jr.
