Gary Waters

Gary Gene Waters, 72, of Loves Park, passed away at home on May 22, 2023, after a long illness with his devoted wife Patricia by his side. Gary was born June 5, 1950, in Rockford, Illinois, married Patricia in 1973 and moved to Loves Park in 1976. Over the years, Gary worked route sales for Coca-Cola, General Foods, Piemonte Bakery, Jays Foods and Hostess Foods, ending his career as store manager at the Hostess Thrift Store in Loves Park. He enjoyed travelling with his wife until health issues interfered. He then developed a passion for video games, forging lasting friendships spanning the country. He loved football and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Those who knew him remember his ready smile, quick wit and upbeat outlook on life. Gary is survived by Patricia, his wife of 49 years; son Jason (Nichole) Waters, grandchildren Xander and Olivia; brother-in-law Ted (Sharon) Wilken; sister-in-law Kathy Wilken, nephew William (Amanda) Moore and niece Tiffany Wilken. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Wanda Waters; grandparents Francis and Ruby Cornmesser; father- and mother-in-law Julius and Marilyn Wilken; and brother-in-law Mark Wilken. To all friends and family who cared about and loved Gary, you are remembered in our hearts. A special thank you to Rockford Memorial Hospice and especially Dana, Karen and Cheryl, his nurses, for their loving care during this difficult time.  A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
