Garland Peek

Garland Melton Peek 83, of Rockford passed away in is home on Wednesday September 23, 2020 after a long illness. He was born on November 8, 1936 to Luther and Monnie (Melton) Peek in Bono, Arkansas. He married Zeda Cagle of Bradford Arkansas on November 16, 1957. Garland was a farm worker and drove a Cotton Picker around the Caraway, Arkansas area during his twenties. He moved his family to Rockford, Illinois from Caraway Arkansas in 1967 to better provide for his family. That is what Garland always did so well, he provided for his family. He worked at Barber Coleman in Rockford for 20+ years and went back to farming and created his former business, The Red Barn Produce, formerly on Blackhawk Road. He did this through retirement. He was known in Rockford for his truck stands. He loved interacting with the public and selling fresh local produce and fresh Arkansas pecans. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years Zeda Peek. One Daughter, Charlene Opsahl of Rockford Illinois. One Son, Timmy Peek of Dixon Illinois. Two grandchildren Lucas Shaver(Christopher Rail) of Rockford, Illinois, and Carrie Opsahl(Justin Dal Collo) of Rockford Illinois. He also leaves behind two great grandchildren. Everett and Ellaura Dal Collo. Honorary grandchildren including Alyssa Puente, Kasey Renton, Leslie Sample and Ryan Letsinger. He loved so many as his own. He is also survived by his twin sister Gertie Parkin(Myron Spence) of Rockford, Illinois. His sister Nellie Tanker of Rockford Illinois. As well as many nieces and nephews. He met his mother and father as well as his two brothers Harold Peek and Jimmy Peek and three sisters Eva Nelson, Pauline Kee and Ruby Warmouth when he entered heaven to be with his heavenly father. Memorial Service will be held at Apostolic Pentecostal Church on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 840 Mattis Avenue in Rockford, Illinois at 2pm with Pastor Dave Frederick presiding. The family asks that all guests please wear facemasks and follow all COVID rules and precautions. A very special thank you to Serenity Hospice in Oregon Illinois.
