Eugene Johnson

Eugene E. Johnson, 86, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022. He was born September 29, 1935, the son of Kenneth and Florence (Talbott) Johnson. Gene graduated from Rockford East High School class of 1953. Gene married Joan Mallette on June 18, 1955, in Rockford, Illinois. Gene worked for Humphrey Cadillac and Olds until retirement as a transmission specialist. He was a member of several area clubs, including the Blackhawk Athletic Club and the SM&SF Club. In his earlier years he was involved in the area Model T Club, as well as drag racing. His model T was restored by himself and friends and went on to win several awards. He was truly a jack of all trades that always had time to help others.  He is survived by his daughter, Ellen (Dave) Rabuck; sons, Ken (Rose) Johnson and Al (Anna) Johnson; sisters, Jane (Ken) Clapper, Marcia (Steve) Chiodini; brother, Lenny Johnson; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan, brother Al and his wife Barb. Celebration of life will be Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Blackhawk Athletic Club, 2023 Broadway, Rockford, IL 61104.
