In Loving Memory of Edward Wayne Reed
In a bittersweet passage of time, we bid farewell to Ed Reed (age 74) of Pecatonica, IL, a father, partner, grandfather, family man, and friend who infused our lives with happiness and joy. On March, 31, 1949, he burst into the world with a twinkle in his eye, and on June 5 th , 2023, he left us with hearts brimming with memories that will forever bring a smile to our faces.
Ed was the life of the party, always armed with playful humor to brighten our days. No gathering was complete without his anecdotes and wittiness that had everyone rolling in stitches. Oh how we will miss his quick wit and comedic timing! As a father, Ed was an extraordinary source of support for his son, Jake. His imaginative spirit and energy were the catalysts for countless unforgettable memories and laughs. But Ed’s zest for life didn’t stop there. As a partner, he brought an abundance of love and light into the life of his significant other, Marcia. Together, “Butchie” and Marcia embarked on life’s journey with their hearts intertwined in companionship. Their love story was like a never-ending comedy, filled with laughter and appreciation for life’s delightful absurdities.
Friendship was a cherished cornerstone in Ed’s life, and his friends were his accomplices in laugher and adventure. From epic “gator” road trips to visit with neighbors Brian & Brenda Mennenga, Frank & Wendy DeRosso, and Rod Dunnavan, to impromptu gatherings, Ed orchestrated unforgettable experiences that will be cherished by his friends forever.
Ed possessed a remarkable knack for transforming his surroundings into vibrant and well-maintained spaces. With a meticulous touch, he delighted in cultivating a manicured yard that was the envy of his neighbors and friends. His dedication to gardening created an oasis of tranquility. Not only did he possess a green thumb, but Ed also had an eye for detail when it came to keeping his vehicles clean, leaving them sparkling and pristine. Yet, amidst his love for nurturing nature, Ed had an unexpected thrill-seeking side. He found great joy attending local truck pulls, where the roar of engines and the power of machines ignited his sense of adventure.
We also celebrate the honorable service of a true patriot and dedicated member of the United States Navy. Throughout his illustrious service from 1969-74, Ed demonstrated unwavering commitment, selflessness, and bravery in the defense of our nation’s shores and beyond. From the moment he stepped foot on deck, Ed embraced the values of duty, honor, and integrity, becoming a shining example of the Navy’s core principles. While our hearts ache at the loss of Ed’s physical presence, we find solace in the memories he leaves behind. Let us honor his memory by living each day with a dash of humor and unwavering commitment to spreading joy. Though he may have departed this world, his spirit will forever dance within us, reminding us to find delight in life’s simplest pleasures. Ed is survived by his adoring son Jacob E.
