Edward Grover Hammonds Jr., 52, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on October 24, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1973, in Rockford to Edward Grover Hammonds Sr. and the late Kathie Marie Kelly.
Edward was known for his big heart, humor, and dedication to others. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and riding his Harley. A collector, he enjoyed finding antiques and unique treasures. He was also a lifelong sports fan, cheering on everything from NASCAR and baseball to football.
For 25 years, Edward worked alongside his father in their family business, "Hammonds Roofing", where he took great pride in his craftsmanship. Beyond his trade, he gave back to the community through his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, always lending a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Edward had a special place in his heart for people, especially the elderly. He made it a point to check on and care for neighbors and friends, ensuring they were never alone after loss. His kindness, generosity, and selflessness touched many lives.
A proud member of the Cherry Valley Sportsman's Club, Edward enjoyed spending time with friends playing horseshoes and darts, always bringing laughter and good company wherever he went.
Edward is survived by his son Edward Grover Hammonds III; his father Edward Grover Hammonds, Sr.; sister Kelly Dee Hammonds; his niece Zorie Ann McNamara; nephew Zander Theodore McNamara; friend Craig Nelson, and Aunt Vickie. He is predeceased by his mom Kathie Marie Kelly and his dog Bear.
