Edmund Vail

March 15, 1941 — November 24, 2023

Edmund “Ed” J. Vail, 82, of Belvidere, IL, died on November 24, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born March 15, 1941, in Belvidere, IL, son to Francis Vail and Eda Mae Vail-Landphere. Ed married Sharon Briggs, on February 28, 1970. He retired from Abar Ipsen in 2006. He loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite things to do was grab a bite to eat with his wife, Sharon, and sit down at the park to watch the world go by. He cherished every moment he spent with the ones he loved. His passion for woodworking won him the Belvidere Christmas Lighting Contest, with a hand-crafted wooden Christmas train. He was also an avid fisherman with many trips up north under his belt. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten, as his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Ed is loved and will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Sharon Vail; son, Troy (Jennifer) Vail; daughter Kathy Vail Nyen; grandchildren Kassie (Jared) Krug, Kyle (Ashley) Nyen; great grandchildren Charlotte Krug, Brody Nyen, and Ryan Nyen; sisters June Vail Wikoff, Jean Hyser, Mary McGill; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Francis Vail and Eda Mae Vail-Landphere; brothers David Vail, Chuck Vail, and Mike Vail; sister Doris Ranken; and nephew Craig Hyser.

As per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services. The family would like to thank OSF Health Systems, Van Matre, Hospice, and everyone who helped Ed for the past 8 months. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
