Douglas Allan Nichols, 87, of Roscoe, IL, passed away in his home on July 14, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1938, in Rochester, Minnesota; the son of Lawrence and Lydia (Koelsch) Nichols. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute. Douglas married Jeanette Steiger on August 1, 1959, in Minnesota. He worked as an industrial engineer for Volkswagen in Lincolnshire. He was very knowledgeable in Volkswagen motors and was capable of fixing a Zamboni with a Volkswagen motor. He could listen to a motor over the phone and tell you what was wrong and how to fix it. He and his wife, Jeanette, also ran a food truck called "Ma and Pa Kettle" that they would travel to different fairs. He was a lifelong member of the VW Club of America. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Ingleside, IL and Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Roscoe, IL. Douglas and Jeanette were very involved with Marriage Encounter when they lived in Ingleside as well. They enjoyed traveling and going to VW swap meets. In his younger years, Douglas was a mechanic for stock car racing and worked for a championship driver, Paul Tradup.
Survivors include his son Warren (Gail) Nichols and Sarah (Greg) Riemer; grandchildren Michael Smith, Elizabeth Rieman, Crystal (Bill) Strey, Vanessa (Brad) Pellegrini, Jordan (Jaden Canales) Riemer, and Garret Riemer; great-grandchildren Brendan and Asher Pellegrini, Paisley and Magnolia White, and Juliette Canales; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Lou Dominguez. He is predeceased by his parents; wife Jeanette; and siblings Louise, Leroy, Marv, and Marlow.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Rd., Roscoe, IL 61073. A visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of service.
