Dorothy "Irene" (Drew) Adams, 76, of Rockford passed away on December 18, 2020. She was born on March 15, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents William and Matilda "Nettie" Drew. As a child she moved to Rockford with her mother, brother and stepfather, Paul Norris. Irene married the love of her life, Larry Adams, on October 7, 1961. During their 59 years of marriage they raised three children, Denise (Dan Gessner) Rux, Larry Adams, Jr and Scott (Tamara Meyer) Adams. Irene enjoyed sewing and crafting. She always had a project or two in the works at any given time. She and Larry have gone on many cross country road trips together stopping to enjoy the sites and visiting a few casinos along the way. They also enjoyed being with their group of friends who dubbed Irene "Activity Director" because she was the one to get everyone together for camping, canoeing and parties. More than anything she loved her husband, family, and friends. She will be forever loved and missed. ? She leaves behind her husband, Larry, her children, grandchildren, Tyler (Kristina) and Alex Rux, Cody and Haley (Anna) Adams and Mason and Sophia Adams, great grandchildren, Justin, Collin and Carter Rux, Amaya and Cameron Adams and Sophia Olson, special sister-in-law, Brenda Adams and special cousin, Patty McGuire. She also leaves behind many brothers in law and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William "Bill" Drew, in laws, Vester and Leona Adams and many others that were important in her life. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Step-Down Unit at Javon Bea Hospital, especially the nurses, for providing professional, kind, and compassionate care to our mother and family in our time of need. You truly made a difference. In lieu of flowers the family would like to encourage you to make a donation to The American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
