Donald R. Newman

Dec 17, 1938 — Jul 19, 2026

Donald R. Newman, 87, of Rockford, passed away on July 19, 2026, in his daughter’s home, after a battle with dementia. He was born on December 17, 1938, in Rockford, the son of Carl and Essie (Jones) Newman.

Donald married Sharon Rauch on May 16, 2000, though their love story spanned 47 wonderful years together. He retired as a laborer with Local 32 and proudly owned and operated Don's Seal Coating for more than 30 years. During the winter months, Don split his time between Illinois and California, continuing to run his seal coating business while also enjoying precious time with his children.

Don had a special love for animals and began each morning by feeding the birds and squirrels that gathered in his yard. He took great pride in caring for his yard, finding peace and satisfaction in watching the beauty he had created grow and flourish. Whether tending to his landscaping or simply sitting outside enjoying the fruits of his labor, Don found happiness in the simple pleasures of life.

Don is survived by his children Tammy (Jake) Clark, Penny Newman Garcia, Don (Henry) Newman, and Kelly Quinby; grandchildren Scott and Robert Clark, Michael Vega, Angie, and Eric Garcia, Austin Edwards, Ashley Quinby, Priscilla Tolefree, Kayla and Brittany Dahlberg; great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and his dog Buster. Don is predeceased by his parents Carl and Essie Newman; wife Sharon Newman; daughter Amy Nading; and siblings Bill, Ronald, Robert, and Gary Newman, Barbara Jones, and Phylis Lampson.

The family will announce a Celebration of Life soon. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
