Donald Nemec

December 31, 1969 — May 4, 2022

Donald Robert Nemec, 82, of Roscoe, formerly of Belvidere, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on May 4, 2022. He was born December 13, 1939, in Lake Village, Indiana; the son of Robert and Lela (Grilley) Nemec. He graduated from Harvard Community High School in 1958. Donald proudly served our country in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemarie Panec on January 16, 1960, in Lake Geneva, WI. Don and Rosemarie lived in their home, that Don built mostly by himself, for 39 years in Belvidere. Donald worked as a general contractor and was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed wood crafting and was a mentor to many, teaching them carpentry. He built furniture and enjoyed spending much of his free time in his workshop. Don should have been a cowboy, there wasn’t a western movie made that he did not watch multiple times. Don was a fighter. He struggled with health issues for years, but never gave up. He was a very generous man and would do anything for anyone. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Warren, the OSF Hospice team Jenice, Deana, Rebecca, and Pastor Darren Loeppky for all their compassion and care during this difficult time. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosemarie Nemec; children Christine Bates and Mark (Tommi) Nemec; grandchildren Katie (Jacob) Dillenburg, Kelsey (Ryley McBain) Nemec, Ryan Bates, Joshua (Brooke) Bullard, and Jeremy Bullard; great grandchildren Elliana, Camden, and one on the way Alaya, Bella, Khloe, Emma, Olivia, Lainey, James, Gwen, and Oliver; sisters Dee Bradley, Ann Rogers, and Linda Schlickman; several nieces and nephew; and his best friend Kenneth “Gus” Schmars. Donald is predeceased by his parents; brother Dean Nemec; sister Marlene (Neil) Aultman; brothers-in-law Richard Bradley, Raymond Rogers, and Roland Schlickman; and nephew Wayne Bradley. A Celebration of Life will be 2 – 4 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Belvidere VFW, 1310 W. Lincoln Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008 (located downstairs, with an elevator available) with military rites at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to OSF Hospice or to the American Lung Association. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Rd., Loves Park.
