Donald F Cowgill

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Franklin Cowgill on June 30, 2026, at the age of 78. Donald passed away in the comfort of his home after a brief illness. Born on October 26, 1947, in Rector, Arkansas, Donald lived a life full of adventure, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear.

Donald was the beloved son of the late Franklin Cowgill and Lulu Parks. He is predeceased by both his parents and by his brothers Randy and Ronnie Cowgill, his sister Diane Cowgill, and his nephew Ronnie Cowgill, Jr. Despite the losses he endured, Donald’s heart remained filled with love and generosity for his surviving family and friends. He leaves behind his devoted son, Donald Dwight Cowgill (Chantel Pippel), as well as his cherished niece, Kristy Kitchen (James Kitchen). Donald’s life was further enriched by the enduring friendships he shared with Leon Baldridge and Henry Gosha, his closest companions. Donald was enlisted in the Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1972. A true American soldier.

For over 30 years, Donald dedicated himself to his craft as a skilled machinist at Elco Industries, Inc. in Rockford, Illinois. Known for his exceptional ability to fix anything, Donald’s work was a testament to his meticulous nature and his commitment to excellence. Outside of work, Donald found joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed his 56 Chevy and throwing back a few cold ones with family and friends.

Donald, affectionately known as “Daddio Don”, was a father of unparalleled devotion. His son was his pride and joy, and he was a steadfast presence not only in his son’s life but in the lives of his son’s friends – Johnny S., Gary H., Curt B., Mike G., Steve L., Stacey G, Brad H., and many more. Don will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we hold close the memories of his strength, humor, and kindness. Hoorah!! Daddio Don! You were one tough guy, and your spirit will forever remain with those who had the privilege of knowing you. You will forever be in our hearts.
