Dolores Burke
June 2, 1930 — August 16, 2024
Dolores “Lori” L. (Hausmann) Burke, passed away peacefully at Lincolnshire Place Memory Care facility in Loves Park, IL on Friday, August 16, 2024. She was born in Chicago on June 2, 1930; the daughter of Richard and Gazella Hausmann. Lori lived and worked in Chicago until she met her future husband, Donald R. Burke (at the time in med school). They were married on September 5, 1953. Don’s medical career eventually brought them to Racine, WI, where they raised their 6 children, who she doted on.
As if she wasn’t kept busy enough raising 6 kids, Lori had many additional interests. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels for many years and taught reading for the Racine Literary Council. Lori’s love of music included singing in her church choir. She was in a bowling league back in the day, then a tennis league, and was always an avid bridge player. She also found time to knit sweaters and blankets for her various kids and grandkids, sometimes with her “Stitch & Bitch” group of friends. In addition, Lori and Don loved traveling. They found time to travel to many corners of the world both to visit family or just to discover new places.
Lori was predeceased by her parents; her sister Marlene; and her loving husband Don. She is survived by her six children Mike, Tim (Lucy), Sue (John) Verhaeghe, Don (Jean), Mark (Lori), and Maureen (Levent) Bayraktar; Lori had 14 grandkids and 18 great-grandchildren.
Everyone who knew Lori couldn’t help but feel her warmth and kindness. Her house was always a place where friends and neighbors felt welcome. We, her family, were the luckiest of all because we had her love for all our lives. She had a way of making each of us feel so special, and although we’ll miss her, we’re so happy that she’s now at peace and with our dad in heaven.
A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at 11 am, Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Southern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her honor to either St. Jude’s Children’s research
