David Paul Mastrangeli, 63, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Rockford, Illinois after a courageous fight with glioblastoma brain cancer. David was born on September 21, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois to Al Mastrangeli and Geraldine Turgeon. He attended Guilford High School, graduating in the class of 1976. After high school, David married the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Nolan on September 8, 1979. David spent 32 years of dedicated employment with the Illinois Tollway working in maintenance. ? David was “Mr. Fix-it” around the house. His favorite thing in the world was spending time at many golf courses with buddies, Luigi, Joe and Vito. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan. He was known as the family “pool boy”. Most of his days were spent at Menards, seeing what he could find. David was truly a family man, and always strived to put his family first. He was everyone’s hero, and everyone’s dad. David leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Kathy; children, Brian (Katie) Mastrangeli, Trisha Mastrangeli; grandson, Arlo; sister, Rita Palmeno and her children, Tia and Torre; sister, Lisa Mastrangeli; stepbrother, Randy (Tracy) Knight and their children, Nicole, Stacie, and Sarah; stepbrother, Jeff (Adella) Knight; special nieces, Tara and Morgen; special nephew Cory; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family; many friends; a man’s best-friend and dog, Riley. David was preceded in death by parents, Al and Geraldine; maternal grandparents, Jean and Claude Johnson; paternal grandparents, Paul and Rita Mastrangeli; stepsister, Jody Knight; brother-in-law, Michael Palmeno. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Heartland Hospice, especially Diane and Julia, for their unconditional love and support through this journey. A Celebration of Life will take place for David on Sunday, October 10, 2021, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Twin Shelters within Sinnissippi Park, 1401 North Second Street, Rockford, Illinois, 61107.
