David "Davey, Frenchy, Fosswa" Evan Fosse, 69, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 5, 2025, at home. He was born on January 4, 1956, to Edward and Bernadine Fosse (Kluson) and was the beloved brother of Catherine Fosse (deceased), Annette Fosse (deceased), and Alan Fosse. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Fosse (Bacher), and his cherished son, Chad Fosse.
A hardworking and skilled craftsman, David spent most of his life as a machinist, beginning in the family business at Cherry Valley Tool. He was also a talented tile worker, often taking on side projects with his friend Paul, applying his precision and dedication to every job.
David was known as one of the kindest and most gentle souls you could ever meet—soft, sweet, empathetic, and endlessly compassionate. He never hesitated to lend a hand, never expected anything in return, and would have given the shirt off his back if someone needed it. His selflessness and generosity were unmatched.
Above all, David was a devoted husband and a proud, loving father, standing by Linda and Chad with unwavering loyalty and love. Whether cheering Chad on at football games or sharing their passion for the Chicago Bears and University of Illinois, he treasured every moment with his son. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—tending to the yard and garden with Linda, sitting peacefully with her in their beautiful backyard, working on cars with his brother, and indulging his undeniable sweet tooth. A true animal lover, he had a gentle heart for every creature he encountered. In quiet moments, he found comfort in his favorite old Westerns, especially Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show.
David's warmth, kindness, and soft smile touched the lives of many. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
A celebration of life for David will be held on March 16, 2025, at the SM & SF Club (1010 Sandy Hollow Rd, Rockford, IL 61109) from 1:00–4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to share any photos or videos you have of David. Memory cards will also be available for anyone who wishes to write down and share a favorite memory, story, or moment—something that captures the kindness, humor, and warmth he brought to those around him. These memories will be cherished by the family as a way to keep his spirit alive.
In honor of David's memory and to support Linda in maintaining a safe and comfortable home, contributions toward necessary repairs are deeply appreciated. Donations may be coordinated by contacting Chad at fossechad@gmail.com or 815-914-8412. A donation box will also be available at the celebration of life.
