Darrel Peterson

Darrel Roger Peterson, Sr., 86, of Rockford, passed away on December 6, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1936, in Rockford; the son of Charles and Helen (Busack) Peterson. Darrel graduated from Pecatonica High School and entered the US Army and served for 6 years. He married Rosalie Carol Ruggles on March 18, 1961. Darrel owned The Main Tap in Pecatonica during the ‘70’s, he was a painter for many years, and was a foreman at Dean Foods. He was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Rockford and the American Legion in Pecatonica. He loved collecting and working on clocks. He also collected coins and enjoyed spending his time at auctions. He was an avid Cubs and Packer fan, played cards, and when he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. When it got cold outside he would plan a trip to spend winter somewhere warm. Survivors include his children Darrel Peterson, Jr., Terry Peterson, and Tina (Daniel) Edler; grandchildren Eric Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Paige Edler, and Alicia Peterson; great grandson Zane Peterson; half-siblings Patricia Peterson-Greene and Charles Peterson, Jr.; a niece and several nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; wife Rosalie; sons Alan and Eric Peterson; grandchild Alan Peterson, Jr; sister Darlene (Joe) Hilton; and nephew Kelly Hilton. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 pm to 3 pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the American Legion, 403 Main St., Pecatonica, IL 61063.
