Darla Griffin

December 31, 1969 — October 11, 2022

UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION: Darla Kay Griffin, 65, of Rockford, passed away in her home on October 11, 2022. She was born August 7, 1957, in Freeport, IL; the daughter of Leslie and Marilyn (Utt) Willis. She is a graduate of East High School. Darla had a green thumb and loved to be outside in her garden, soaking up the sunshine and digging in the dirt. She tended to her plants and flowers and enjoyed the overall beauty of nature, especially beautiful butterflies. She was a crafty person and was always changing her home’s décor. She adored the colors pink and yellow and loved anything with glitter. She was an avid Bears fan, enjoyed reading, and was a member of the Happy Hookers in her living community. Darla was a very intelligent lady and was the matriarch of her family. Her family has many fond memories of her dancing in the kitchen, and she was always in charge of bringing the paper products to a party along with the Jell-O shots…but don’t drink her Coke! She will be remembered as a very warm, welcoming person that made people feel at ease and would never let anyone feel left out. The best part of her life was spending time with her “Grands” because they made her life grand. Survivors include her former spouse and friend Thomas Griffin; her children Marissa (Charles Rose) Griffin, Kelly (Andrew) Campbell, and Carrie (Antwon) Jones; her grands Joseph Morgan, Gabriella Rinehart, Grace Griffin, Jackson Griffin-Rose, Desmond Campbell, Devol Yokley-Griffin, Camden Yokley-Griffin, Avery Jones, and Journie Jones; siblings Denise Shaw, Dawn Willis, and Dan (Christy) Willis; a few nieces and nephews; and all the special friends she met over the years. She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved son Eric Griffin, and niece Lindsey Willis. A Memorial Service will be 5 to 6 pm, Friday, October 21, 2022 at the VFW, 2018 Windsor Rd. Loves Park, IL 61111, and a Celebration of Life to follow from 6 to 11 pm.  Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Rd., Loves Park.
