Crystal Lynn (Johnson) Maney fell asleep leaving this world behind on November 6 th , 2022. She succumbed to kidney disease; an illness she dealt with for many years. Born on March 22 nd 1954 to Raymond and Juanita Johnson of Rockford, IL, Crys lived her entire life in the Rockford area. She graduated from Harlem High School and had a strong desire to serve others. After graduation, Crys traveled to Birmingham England to work in the Christadelphian Home and Hospital (Nursing Home) as a nurses aid. She had a wonderful experience there and made life-long friends with some of the other aids; even attending a 30 year reunion with four of them in 2003. Crys and her husband Jeff were married for 48+ years and were parents of three wonderful children; Jacob Maney, Jessica (Maney) Parker, Carmen (Maney) Turner. All three are married with children of their own making grandparenting a marvelous experience. Crys loved serving her Lord in all kinds of capacities; church functions, Sunday School teacher, pianist for the church, and especially helping others when they were in need. She opened her house to many; sometimes for an extended stay if they needed assistance. Crys was a quiet, kind, compassionate, forgiving servant of her Lord. She had a mantra: “Jesus, King of my heart” and she demonstrated that in practical ways to everyone she met. She had absolute faith in God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. This was the principle reason she did not pursue dialysis and a kidney transplant to overcome her medical condition; choosing to “walk toward the light” regardless of the timing. Her faith was an inspiration to many and she is missed tremendously. Crys is survived by her husband Jeffrey, son Jacob (JoAnna), daughter Jessica (Mat) Parker, and daughter Carmen (John) Turner, brothers Jay Johnson, Russ (Sherry) Johnson and Trent (Sue) Johnson. She has seven extraordinary grandchildren: Shay and Cian Maney (Jacob and JoAnna Maney), Eli and Soraya Parker (Jessica and Mat Parker), and Henry, Noah, and Iris Turner (Carmen and John Turner). Crys has many cousins as well as nieces and nephews; some of whom had a very close relationship with Crys bringing her great joy. Friends are the family you choose. Crys had a few extremely close friends who were in every way part of her inner circle family. Without their love and support, her journey would have been so much more difficult. There will be a celebration of life on November 19th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Stockholm Inn in Rockford IL (2420 Charles St, Rockford, IL 61108). There will be food available throughout the event and an opportunity to share any memories or anecdotes about Crys from 3:30 to 4:00 during the celebration. This is an “open house” celebration format so please feel free to come and stay as long or as little as you wish. In lieu of flowers, please send donations (if you are so inclined) to Transitions Care (Crys’ hospice…she volunteered with them from 2015 to 2018) at the following address: 1551 Bond St, Suite 143 Naperville, IL 60563.
