Charles Edward Thompson, 76, of Rockford, passed away on February 16, 2026. He was born on May 28, 1949, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Paul and Genevieve (Copus) Thompson. Charles graduated from Guilford High School in 1968 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era.
On November 21, 1970, Charles married the love of his life, Claudette Ashcraft. Charles worked for many years as a machine operator, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.
Charles had a lifelong passion for firearms and was a proud member of the Pine Tree Pistol Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. He found great joy in vegetable gardening and could often be found tending to his garden. Fishing trips to the lake were among his favorite pastimes, offering him both relaxation and happiness. He also enjoyed attending car shows, especially those featuring classic hot rods.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Claudette; his daughters Kimberly and Kathrine Thompson; grandson Ayverie Thompson; sisters Paula (Robert) Zeller and Elaine (Peter) Jungblut; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Max. He is predeceased by his parents.
