Rev. Charles A. Franks, Jr., 83, of Rockford, went home to be with the Lord onAugust 18, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born December 26, 1935; son of Charles A. Sr. and Thelma A. (Fern) Franks. Chuck graduated from Altoona High School and served in the US Air Force. Chuck married Freda Simm on July 2, 1955. He was a member of the Scout Troop Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As an ordained minister, Chuck had a jail ministry called TAP (Turning Around Prisoners) Ministries. He is survived by his loving wife Freda; children Sheryl (Bill) Crowley, Charlene Franks, and Shawn (Vicky) Franks; grandchildren Jared, Justin (Sarah) , Jeremy, John (Brianna), Stephen, Jessica (Barry), Alexander, and Tanner (fiancé Whitney); great-grandchildren Alexandria, Joshua, Julia, Nico, Owen, Cameron, and Adrian; siblings Irlene Papazian, Daniel (Carolyn) Franks; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, son Shannon L. Franks, sisters Veronica Y. Conrad and Saraellen Kay Miller; brothers-in-law Harold Eugene Conrad, Sr., and Ara Papazian, MD.; and son-in-law Gregory R Manring. A Celebration of Life will start at 2pm with Memorial Service to begin at 3pm, Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61101 with Rev. Dave Fogderud, with the Overflowing Cup, officiating. Reception to follow 4 – 6 pm. A colour guard will be presented by the Boy Scouts, Troop 23. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the family for a memorial to be established. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 7307 N.Alpine Rd, Loves Park.
