Bill Schuur

December 31, 1969 — March 30, 2022

Bill Schuur, 64, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at home with his loving wife of 47 years by his side. Bill was born July 15, 1957, in Freeport, IL, the son of Marvin "Jim" and Betty (Lizer) Schuur. He grew up with his six siblings in Pecatonica, IL. Bill married Kathy Bull September 13, 1974. Bill worked for his father-in-law at Bull Well Drilling for 27 years. Bill and Kathy bought and operated the business from 2002 until they retired in 2018, at which time their sons took over ownership. Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons David Schuur (Missy) and Kris Schuur (Lisa Moore); grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jessica, Brennan and Kylie; three brothers, Tom Schuur, Tim (Kathy) Schuur and Sam (Jackie) Schuur; and two sisters, Connie (Greg) White and Lisa (Bob) Puddicombe. Bill also leaves behind sister-in-laws Laurie Raum, Deb Marshall (Detroy) and Cindy Stout (Jamey Hussey); numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Betty; sister, Tina Schuur Barr; sister-in-law, Sue Schuur; brother-in-law, Jim Bull; father-in -law, Jack Bull; and mother-in-law, Shirley Bull.
Bill’s greatest accomplishment was the life and family he built with Kathy. His love for his family was above all else. Bill could not have been a better husband, father, and grandfather, serving as a role model for not only for his children and grandchildren, but all who knew him.
Bill was an avid lover of the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and taking ATV or Side-by-side rides. He and Kathy took countless camping trips over the years, most frequently to Thomson, Fisherman’s Corner, Upper Peninsula, and the family land in Leaf River. Family and friends often joined them in their camping adventures. Bill’s love for the outdoors is shared by his grandkids, and he never turned down an opportunity to take them fishing, hunting or on side-by-side rides. His grandkids were his world. Bill had a love for classic cars, having restored and owned several over his lifetime.
Bill was talented in many trades. A true MacGyver. There wasn’t much Bill couldn’t fix or do, and friends and family often called upon him. Bill found great joy in helping people. Although retired, Bill still spent a lot of time at his shop where there was often a stream of visitors stopping by to visit with him and his sons. Bill loved people and people loved Bill! Bill’s laugh and big personality will be remembered fondly. Like the roaring campfires he was known for making, his memory will shine in the hearts of those who loved him forever.
Special thank you to Bill’s niece, Sonya Suess, who provided caring support to Bill and Kathy while he was being treated at Mercy Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12pm – 4pm on Sunday, May 1 st at Barnacopia, 2570 NW Branch Road, Polo, IL. A brief service will be held at 12:30pm, followed by a luncheon served in honor of Bill. Friends and family are welcome to arrive any time during the event.
