Anthony L. Gudvangen, 82, of Davis Junction, passed away on July 26, 2022, in his home with his wife Sue by his side. Born May 19, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa; the son of Russell and Hilma (Lund) Gudvangen. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, Minnesota in 1958 and went on to graduate from Carthage College in Carthage, IL, in 1962. Tony married Suzanne J. Sneden on June 24, 1989. He worked as a teacher for School Districts 300 and U46. Even though he retired from teaching, he never quit educating the people around him…whether they were listening to him or not. Tony was a wrestling coach at the high school level and coached football and basketball at the middle school level. He was a member of the Owls and Moose Clubs, both in Elgin and Rochelle, and a member of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, IL. Tony and Sue enjoyed traveling and were able to make it to all 50 states, 48 of them in an RV. He loved fishing, boating, dogs, Old Western and WWII movies. He adored his two children and was excited to add 3 more to his family after his marriage to Sue. He loved his family, especially his 10 grandchildren. Tony was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife Suzanne “Sue” Gudvangen; children Diana (Gary) Broj, Russell (Lori) Gudvangen, Karen (John) Alesch, and Derek Schweitzer; grandchildren Bethany (J.J.) Broj Ward, Lindsay Gudvangen, Riley (Matt) Valtiera, Ryan Broj, Luke Broj, Victoria Alesch, Natalie Alesch, Noah Schweitzer, Riley Schweitzer, and Tristan Alesch; his dog Tobias, and his cousins David Brown, and Mike (Joyce) Davis. He is predeceased by his parents; his daughter Connie Schweitzer; and his service dog Hitchhiker. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, July 31, 2022, at 12 p.m. in the Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, 12473 Montague Rd., Winnebago, IL 61088, with Chaplain Joe Marek, from Mercy Heath Hospice, to officiate. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the service. The family is requesting that memorials be made to the Middle Creek Presbyterian Church or to the Anderson Animal Shelter, 100 S.
