Alexander Langham Barta
“One day you’ll leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember. When thunder clouds start pouring down, light a fire they can’t put out. Carve your name into those shining stars.” Avicci With his unexpected death on Monday, December 27, 2021, Alexander Langham Barta left this world behind. He definitely lived a life all of his loved ones will remember.
Alex was born on January 9 ,
1985, in Denver, Colorado to Bruce Victor Barta and Kathy Jane Velzen. He was joined by his twin sister, Jennifer Lynne (Becerra). He graduated from Denver Christian High School in 2003. He then pursued a career working in the trades, both in electrical training and the elevator mechanic union. After relocating to Florida in 2019, Alex studied to become an elevator inspector. He became a licensed inspector in Miami, Florida. While in Florida, Alex met the love of his life, Taylor Stoddard. He became her “one”, the partner she could only imagine. She knew he was the one when he met her baby, Eddie the Wonder Dog. Eddie is very particular, and Alex was an instant hero to Eddie. Alex loved Taylor and Eddie with his whole heart, and they loved him. Alex had one last test to pass, The Stoddard Siblings. We don’t know if he was ready to take on a whole family when he started dating Taylor, but he quickly became a family member. In doing so, he gained a brother, Chase and two sisters, Faith and Macey. He also became a new son to Greg and Cathey.
Alex moved to Illinois with Taylor in September 2020 and became a licensed elevator inspector in both Illinois and Wisconsin. He worked for Bureau Veritas until the time of his passing. Alex was an incredible friend to so many. He was smart, kind, patient, a great listener and funny. You couldn’t spend time with him and not be laughing. He amazed his trivia team with his depth of knowledge about so many different topics-some left his team just laughing. Alex was blessed with the most beautiful voice. He was a member of the Colorado Children’s Chorale, held the lead in high school productions and had received a generous vocal scholarship to college. Upon moving to Byron, Alex joined the Byron Lions Club. He enjoyed working with his fellow Lions in giving back to the community.
Some knew Alex only through the lens of the addictions he battled for years. That wasn’t the real Alex though, and those fortunate to truly know him immediately recognized him as one who loved deeply and would do anything for those he loved. He talked often of his dear family: His mom, Kathy in Galveston, Texas; his dad, Bruce in Littleton, Colorado; his twin sister, Jennifer, her husband Mark and nephew Tre, in Austin, Texas. He especially loved and missed his grandparents, Eugene and Martha Barta and Frank and Sylvia Velzen. Frank and Sylvia were called Grandma and Grandpa Elf because Frank ran the Keebler Cookie Company (the cookies made by Elves). He shared his treasured memories of his grandparents often.
As we, his loved ones, try to make sense of his tragic death to a disease we won’t understand, we will take comfort in knowing we were blessed to know Alex as the man he wanted to be. We will lean on our faith and each other as we grieve, heal and celebrate his life. Alex will be cremated and his ashes will be spread in the mountains of Colorado in early spring. To celebrate his life now and to send him into Jesus’ arms, there will be a service on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Oregon, IL. There will be a visitation from 5:00-5:45 pm and the service at 5:45 pm. Immediately following the service, all are invited to join.  Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111.  www.statelinecremations.com
